Terms of Use

Sift
Effective date: May 14, 2026
Published by: so & so (operated by Djibril Olu, konatel)

The short version

Use Sift to focus your calendar and see what's next. Don't misuse it. Sift Plus is an auto-renewing subscription billed by Apple — cancel anytime in your App Store account. If your Sift Plus subscription ends, nothing you've made gets deleted. We can update or discontinue the app, but we'll try not to do anything that harms you.

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using Sift ("the app"), you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms") between you and so & so ("we," "us," "our"). If you do not agree, please don't use the app.

Sift is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple's Standard End User License Agreement applies in addition to these Terms — you can review it at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. For matters governed by that EULA (such as App Store distribution and billing), it controls where there is any conflict.

2. The service

Sift is a calendar utility for iPhone. It reads your existing calendars on-device through Apple's EventKit framework and surfaces the events that match your saved views — keyword- and rule-based slices of your calendar. Sift does not create, edit, or delete calendar events, has no account system, and has no server backend. Sift is intended for personal use. It is not a medical, legal, or financial tool and should not be relied on for decisions in those areas.

3. License grant

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, so & so grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to install and use Sift on any Apple device you own or control, for your personal use only. This license does not transfer any ownership of Sift to you.

Your use of Sift is also subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, which is incorporated by reference into these Terms.

4. Sift Plus subscription

Sift Plus is an optional, auto-renewing subscription that provides additional features while your subscription is active.

Products and prices

  • Monthly: EUR 1.99 per month.
  • Yearly: EUR 11.99 per year (approximately 50% off the monthly equivalent).

Prices are displayed in your local currency on the App Store and may vary by region. The price shown at the moment of purchase is the price that will be charged.

What's included

In addition to everything in the free tier, Sift Plus adds:

  • Unlimited views (the free tier is capped at 3)
  • Custom keywords on top of the 17 built-in keywords
  • Hidden events — manually exclude individual events from all views
  • Advanced narrowing — time of day, all-day, recurrence, and location filters
  • Notification digests — daily or weekly summaries of matching events per view
  • iCloud Sync of your views and settings across iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Auto-renewal and billing

Sift Plus is sold by Apple through the App Store as an auto-renewable subscription. By subscribing you agree that:

  • Your Apple ID account will be charged at confirmation of purchase.
  • Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Renewal is charged to your Apple ID within 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal in your App Store account settings on your device at any time.
  • No cancellation of the current period is allowed during an active subscription; cancellation prevents the next renewal and takes effect at the end of the current period.

Family Sharing

Sift Plus supports Apple Family Sharing. When the purchaser turns on sharing for the subscription in their Apple ID settings, the other members of their Family group also get Sift Plus on their own devices. Apple's Family Sharing terms apply.

Cancellation

You can cancel Sift Plus at any time from your App Store account: iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Sift. Cancellation prevents the next renewal; it does not refund the current period.

so & so cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf — Apple owns the billing relationship.

Refunds

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. To request one, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. so & so has no authority to issue refunds on Apple's behalf. Where mandatory consumer law (for example in the European Union) gives you a stronger right to a refund, that right is not affected by these Terms.

Price changes

If we change the price of Sift Plus, Apple will notify existing subscribers in line with App Store policy. Material price increases require your affirmative consent before the next renewal; without that consent, your subscription will not auto-renew.

5. What happens if Sift Plus ends

When your Sift Plus subscription lapses — through cancellation, refund, or removal from a Family Sharing group — no data is deleted. Specifically:

  • Your views stay. Any views you created beyond the free limit remain visible and usable. You won't be able to create new views until you're back under the free limit of 3.
  • Custom keywords stay in the views that already use them. You won't be able to add new custom keywords.
  • Advanced narrowing rules stay applied to existing views. You won't be able to edit those rules.
  • Hidden events become visible again. Sift no longer filters them out. They were never deleted — the rule that hid them is just no longer applied.
  • iCloud Sync stops until you resubscribe. Any data already synced stays in your iCloud account.

Resubscribing restores access to all of the above immediately.

6. Acceptable use

You may use Sift for any lawful personal purpose. You may not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits.
  • Sublicense, rent, lease, or sell the app.
  • Use Sift to access calendars or events you do not have permission to view.
  • Use the app in any way that breaks applicable law or another person's rights.
  • Use the app to harass, deceive, or harm others.

7. Shared views (user content)

Sift lets you share a view as a link or QR code. You are responsible for the contents of any view you share — its name, keywords, and rules.

Shared payloads travel directly between devices through the iOS share sheet. so & so does not host, store, or transmit the contents of shared views; there is no Sift server in the path.

Receiving a shared view does not grant the recipient any access to the original sender's calendars or events. The recipient selects their own calendars on their own device when they import the view.

8. Intellectual property

"Sift", the Sift wordmark, the Sift app icon, and all related visual assets, copy, design, and code are the property of so & so. These Terms grant you a license to use the app; they do not transfer ownership.

SF Symbols and other Apple-supplied assets used inside Sift are provided by Apple under Apple's SF Symbols license and remain Apple's property.

9. Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, so & so makes no warranties — express, implied, statutory, or otherwise — including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

Sift filters and surfaces events from calendars you already have. It is not your primary calendar and is not a substitute for one. We don't warrant that every matching event will be surfaced correctly if iOS, EventKit, a calendar provider, or the underlying network behaves unexpectedly. We don't warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, so & so shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill arising out of or relating to your use of the app, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

so & so's total cumulative liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the app shall not exceed the total fees you paid to Apple for Sift Plus in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the liability.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless so & so, and its principals and contractors, from any third-party claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your misuse of Sift or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

12. Termination

You can stop using Sift and delete the app from your device at any time. Cancellation of any Sift Plus subscription is handled through Apple, as described in §4.

We may suspend or terminate your access to Sift if you materially violate these Terms. Where reasonable, we will provide notice before doing so.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated whenever changes are made, and material changes will also be surfaced in-app where appropriate. Continued use of Sift after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Slovak Republic, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. The courts of the Slovak Republic have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms, subject to any mandatory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. Before any formal proceedings, we'd appreciate the chance to resolve any issue directly — email feedback@madebysoandso.com.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

16. Entire agreement

These Terms, the Sift Privacy Policy, and Apple's Standard End User License Agreement together constitute the entire agreement between you and so & so regarding the app. They supersede any prior agreements on the same subject matter.
